Breathwork 101

Welcome to relaxation!

Need help reconnecting with your body? Take a breath and relax! If you're feeling disconnected, stressed, or overwhelmed, breathwork may be just what you need. Conscious breathing has been practiced for centuries across cultures and is a powerful way to reconnect, reset, and reclaim your peace of mind!

What is Breathwork?

Breathwork refers to a variety of conscious breathing practices that involve intentionally controlling one's breath to achieve therapeutic benefits. By consciously manipulating the breath, one can influence one's physical, mental, and emotional states. Through breathwork, one can tap into the mind-body connection and cultivate relaxation, clarity, and balance!

Different Types of Breathwork

4-7-8

Inhale through your nose for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 7 seconds, and exhale slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds. This is easy to do throughout your day or right before it’s time to sleep!

Breath of Fire

Rapid, rhythmic breathing through the nose with equal emphasis on the inhale and exhale while keeping the belly relaxed. This energizes, increases focus, detoxifies the body, and boosts lung capacity. It can also help clear mental fog and improve concentration.

 Holotropic

A faster-paced, intense style of breathing meant to induce altered states of consciousness (usually guided by a trained facilitator). You can have someone guide you through it in person or even look up a quick video! This technique helps with emotional healing, self-discovery, deep relaxation, and integration of psychological blocks.

Deep Abdominal Breathing

This method is ideal for beginners and great for daily use! Inhale deeply through your nose, expand your belly (not chest), then exhale slowly through your mouth. This reduces stress, improves lung capacity, and promotes relaxation.

Box Breathing

Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4 seconds, exhale for 4 seconds, then hold the exhale for 4 seconds before repeating. This method improves focus, relieves anxiety, and calms the mind. This is commonly used by athletes and first responders to stay grounded under pressure.
