How to Help Detox your Lungs (Post-Wildfire)
In the wake of the recent fires that have devastated our Los Angeles community, the AIRE team wants you to know we are here for you! We understand the challenges our community faces right now and are committed to providing support during these challenging times. Here are some helpful tips to help detox your lungs and feel better as you navigate the post-wildfire smoke.
Stay Hydrated
Drink water! Smoke can be very dehydrating, so staying hydrated is key to helping your body recover. Water keeps you feeling better and helps flush toxins out of your system.
Get Fresh Air
Whenever possible, try to get outside for some clean air. If you’re indoors, an air purifier can help clear the air. A humidifier can also add moisture, which helps soothe irritated airways and makes breathing easier.
Deep Breathing
Take a moment to focus on your breath. Deep breathing promotes relaxation and can help expand your lung capacity. Amid all the chaos, we can still find moments of calm. A simple breathing exercise is breathing deeply through your nose for 4 seconds, holding for 7 seconds, and exhaling slowly through your mouth for 8 seconds (repeat several times).
Gargle Saltwater
A warm saltwater gargle can soothe a throat that may be irritated by smoke. Gargling several times a day can help reduce swelling and ease discomfort.
We want everyone in our community to feel supported and cared for during these difficult times. These simple remedies can help you take small steps toward feeling better as we navigate through this together.
We’re sending love and healing thoughts to all affected by these fires. We’re in this together, LA❤️
